Injury worries for Arsenal ahead of North London derby

Arsene Wenger has admitted that Arsenal have several injury concerns ahead of Sunday’s crucial north London derby with Tottenham Hotspur.

The Frenchman has confirmed in a Sky Sports story that defenders Kieran Gibbs and Bacary Sagna will definitely not make the short trip to White Hart Lane.

Abou Diaby (pictured) is also a major doubt after he was substituted in the victory over Aston Villa last weekend with a calf problem.

It is the latest disappointment for Diaby, who was widely tipped to become Alex Song’s long-term replacement at the Emirates, but has had his progress this season limited by injury.

Wenger told the club’s official website: “Abou is an uncertainty.  He has a calf problem, a minor one.  It is a question of days.

“He will have tests and then we will see if we can use him on Sunday or not.  It is a 50:50.  Actually, maybe a bit more for him playing.”

Sagna was also replaced against Villa following knee trouble.  Carl Jenkinson is likely to deputise, as he did at the start of the season.

Gibbs has been sidelined since getting injured in the home draw with Liverpool last month.

New signing from Malaga, Nacho Monreal will continue at left back, with Thomas Vermaelen expected to fill in as cover for the trip to Bayern Munich in the Champions League later in March.
