Benitez hints at Chelsea exit

Interim manager at Chelsea, Rafa Benitez, has given his biggest hint yet that he will not be at Stamford Bridge next season, ESPN has reported.

The former Liverpool boss (pictured) said: “You know, more or less, how things go (at Chelsea) in terms of what happens if you lose or win.

"I have a job to do and the players are clever enough and realise they will be here next season with long contracts.

“I will be working hard until the end.  My job is to concentrate on the next game, not the speculation.”

The Spaniard’s short-term contract expires at the end of the campaign and a permanent appointment looks unlikely, due to a loss of form and anger from the fans.

Despite entering seven competitions this season, the Blues only realistic hopes of silverware come in the form of the FA Cup and the UEFA Europa League.

The Londoners travel to Middlesbrough on Wednesday night in round five of the FA Cup, with the winners facing a testing trip to Manchester United in the last eight.

Benitez has overseen defeats in the League Cup semi-finals and World Club Championship final since succeeding Roberto di Matteo in November.

Chelsea currently sit fourth in the Premier League table, with just two wins in their last six games.
