Ba set for quick Chelsea return

ESPN reports under-fire interim Chelsea manager Rafa Benitez has been handed a massive fitness boost.

Ahead of Wigan Athletic’s trip to Stamford Bridge on Saturday, the Spaniard has been given the news that Demba Ba should be able to play, despite suffering a broken nose in last weekend’s late defeat away at Newcastle United.

The Senegal international suffered the injury in the first-half on Tyneside, after getting a boot in the face from Magpies skipper Fabricio Coloccini (clash pictured).

The incident left Benitez angry, as he felt his side should have had a penalty and Coloccini should have received his marching orders.

The 27-year-old pulled out of his country’s international friendly in midweek, flying to Milan instead to have a face mask fitted.

On Thursday, he returned to training with the mask, and he should be available for selection at the weekend.

He has scored three times since his January move from Newcastle but despite a quick recovery, Fernando Torres is expected to be handed the leading striking role against Wigan.
