Arsenal lining up summer switch for Capoue

Arsene Wenger is very keen on making a summer move for Toulouse defensive midfielder Etienne Capoue, according to the Daily Telegraph.

The 24-year-old (pictured) has won four caps for France, and become the pivotal figure in the Toulouse midfield, having made 157 league appearances in the last six years.

Manager Arsene Wenger is confident with the squad he has at his disposal, although his deadline day swoop for Nacho Monreal shows he isn’t frightened to spend.

Capoue would be seen as a natural replacement for Alex Song, who departed for Barcelona last summer.

Wenger has had to rely on Mikel Arteta playing in a more defensive role this campaign, and this move would allow the Spaniard to push forward into a more advanced midfield position.

With the club sitting a distant sixth in the Premier League, the potential loss of £35m in Champions League revenue could hit Wenger’s spending power this summer, despite a new sponsorship deal with the Middle East airline and ground sponsor Emirates.
