Arsenal act quickly to snap up Monreal

Reports in Spain from AS newspaper confirmed Arsenal signed Spanish left back Nacho Monreal.

The 26-year-old has become a regular fixture in the Spanish national team, having won nine caps under the management of Vicente del Bosque.

He joins from Malaga, having featured 14 times in La Liga this season.

He scored his first goal of the campaign just last weekend against Real Mallorca.

A fee of around £10m is reported, and Monreal (pictured) travelled to London late on Thursday night to complete the deal.

He will link up with Santi Cazorla again in the club ranks at the Emirates.  Cazorla made the same move from La Rosaleda in the summer

Arsene Wenger has moved quickly after his first choice left back Kieran Gibbs sustained a thigh injury against Liverpool on Wednesday night, which has ruled him out for upto six weeks.

It left Andre Santos as the only recognised left back, and his performances in an Arsenal shirt have been questionable at best.

Monreal came through the youth academy at Osasuna.
