Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has hailed his midfield maestro Jack Wilshere, after the England international put in another exceptional performance in the FA Cup on Wednesday night, reports the official Premier League website.
The 21-year-old (pictured) ran the show for the Gunners against Swansea in their third round replay, before settling the tie with a cracking goal four minutes from the end.
It was a midfield performance that highlighted his importance to the north Londoners, but also to England ahead of tough trips to Montenegro and Ukraine later in the year.
After the 1-0 victory at the Emirates, Wenger said: “Jack was outstanding. He played in a different position tonight (Wednesday), a bit higher up. It suits him well.
“I’ve had no experience of a player being out for 17 months in my whole career. Honestly, I always felt that if we got Jack back on January 1, we’d have done well.
“But he is ahead of what I could imagine and I think he is back to his best.”
Wilshere’s efforts mean Arsenal will travel to Brighton in round four, who have already dispatched Premier League opposition in Newcastle in this season’s FA Cup.
He returned from the sidelines in the reserves in September, and figured in the first-team again at the end of October, clocking up 17 appearances since.
His impact could mean Arsenal still have plenty to fight for this season, which could include the ending of the silverware drought, which stretches back to the FA Cup in 2005.
