Snow plays havoc with football fixtures

The UK’s first significant snowfall of 2013 hit the country on Friday, and the BBC has reported that the sporting calendar has taken a hit, with several matches failing to survive the cold snap.

All of Saturday’s scheduled seven Premier League matches are going ahead as planned, although the late kick-off between West Brom and Aston Villa is under threat due to the arctic conditions in the Midlands.

In the Championship on Saturday, matches at Millwall, Ipswich Town, Peterborough United and Watford all passed morning pitch inspections, with a check happening later in the day at Birmingham City.

League One games at Bury, Crawley Town (stadium pictured), Crewe Alexandra, Hartlepool United, Scunthorpe United and Yeovil Town were all postponed on Friday, while the matches at Doncaster Rovers, Swindon and Walsall all passed pitch inspections today.

Despite heavy snowfall in Northamptonshire, Northampton’s match with Burton Albion in League Two has survived, but the games at Accrington Stanley, Barnet, Bristol Rovers, Oxford United, Port Vale, Rochdale, Southend United and Torquay United were not so lucky.

League One: Bury v Stevenage, Crawley Town v Carlisle United, Crewe Alexandra v Milton Keynes Dons, Hartlepool United v Colchester United, Scunthorpe United v Portsmouth, Yeovil Town v Preston North End

League Two: Accrington Stanley v AFC Wimbledon, Barnet v Fleetwood Town, Bristol Rovers v Exeter City, Oxford United v Rotherham, Port Vale v Bradford City, Rochdale v Gillingham, Southend United v Plymouth Argyle, Torquay United v Chesterfield
