Mancini warns Kompany to improve his tackling

The Daily Telegraph reports Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini has warned his captain, Vincent Kompany, to improve his tackling ability ahead of Fulham’s trip to the Etihad Stadium on Saturday.

The Belgian international (pictured) will be available for selection despite picking up a red card in his side’s excellent 2-0 away victory at Arsenal last weekend.

The FA overturned the dismissal after a successful appeal on Tuesday. Despite getting the decision changed, Mancini has shown no mercy with the 26-year-old, admitting that Kompany should adapt his playing style to avoid further issues with English referees.

Mancini said: “Sometimes, when a defender is under pressure, he can make a bad tackle and I think Vinny needs to pay more attention because this has happened twice (before).

“We could have a problem if we have another situation like this and I spoke with Vinny and told him to pay more attention when he tackles. Sometimes it is better not to tackle."

The defender was considered one of the best players in the Premier League last season, helping City end their 44-year drought for a league title.

However, he was dismissed twice last season, including a controversial red card in the FA Cup defeat to Manchester United for a challenge on Nani, similar to the one on Jack Wilshere at the Emirates Stadium.

Goals from Sergio Aguero and Edin Dzeko helped City achieve a narrow 2-1 victory against Fulham back in September.
