Liverpool eyeing up move for Coutinho

After getting frustrated with Blackpool’s reluctance in selling winger Thomas Ince, Liverpool and manager Brendan Rodgers have turned their attentions towards a youngster from Serie A.

The Guardian reports that the Reds have made an £8m bid for Philippe Coutinho. The 20-year-old has won one senior cap for Brazil, and is considered to be one of the rising talents of South American football but Coutinho (pictured) has grown frustrated of warming the bench at Inter.

He signed for the Nerazzurri as a 16-year-old, and spent the second half of last season on loan at Espanyol.

Rodgers has hinted at making one more sizeable move in this transfer window, after adding Daniel Sturridge to his striking options for £12m earlier in the month.

The Merseysiders might have to go above this first offer for successful negotiations with the 2010 Champions League winners.

Chairman Tom Werner is believed to be in Liverpool to have discussed potential acquisitions on Friday, and will stay on to watch the club play Norwich City on Saturday afternoon.
