Managing director of Liverpool Ian Ayre has come out with his support for the controversial Uruguayan striker Luis Suarez, reports Sky Sports News.
The Reds top goalscorer (pictured), with 19 in all competitions made more headlines at the weekend, scoring the winner in the FA Cup third round tie at Mansfield despite handling the ball before finishing.
Ayre said: "There have been plenty of decisions which have gone against Luis this season.
"These things seem to follow Luis around and it's unfortunate, but he has our full support. He's a fantastic player who makes a huge contribution to the club."
The 25-year-old has scored five goals in his last three matches for Liverpool, and continues to be the shining light at Anfield ahead of Sunday's Premier League showdown at Old Trafford with bitter rivals Manchester United.
It will be his first match at Old Trafford against the Red Devils since he refused to shake Patrice Evra's hand in the corresponding fixture last season, which led to a lot of bad publicity for the Merseysiders.
It isn't the first time Suarez has caused controversy with his hands. His famous handball on the goal line in the 2010 World Cup quarter-finals denied Ghana a place in the semi-finals, at the expense of Uruguay.
