Fulham join race for Butland

The race to sign England youngster Jack Butland is hotting up.

The Daily Telegraph reports Fulham are set to make a bid for the teenage goalkeeper from Birmingham City, though Stoke City have made a formal bid this morning.

Sky Sports sources understand the Potters have tabled a £4m bid for Butland (pictured), with the Blues keen to sell due to their precarious financial position.

Fulham have registered an interest in the 19-year-old as they look to make a move for the future, with veteran goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer out of contract in June.

Southampton made a £6m bid in the summer which was turned down by the struggling Championship side.

Butland decided against a move to Chelsea on Tuesday, as he prefers playing first team football, rather than being in a position of warming the substitute’s bench.

Newcastle United, Liverpool and Everton are also keen admirers for one of Joe Hart’s international rivals.

Butland made his international debut last summer against Italy and played for Team GB at the London Olympics.
