Downing finding his best Anfield form

England international winger Stewart Downing is pleased that he is finding his best form at Liverpool, Sky Sports reports.

Downing (pictured) has struggled at Anfield since moving to the club from Aston Villa for £20m in the summer of 2011.

However after a testing first season that saw him fail to register a goal in the Premier League, Downing told Liverpool’s official website recently that he is delighted to be back on song.

He said: “The first season was patchy, I was in and out. But this year, since I came back into the side, it’s been consistently quite good.

"As I said, it’s probably because the team is playing quite well that it’s all come together.”

Downing was signed by former manager Kenny Dalglish, and had been told earlier this season by Brendan Rodgers that he could leave in this January transfer window.

The response of the ex-Middlesbrough youngster has been to hit the goal trail. He scored a crucial goal to beat Anzhi in October in the UEFA Europa League, and found the net for the first time in a red shirt in the league before Christmas against Fulham.

Downing has featured in the Reds last 10 consecutive matches, and has also featured in an unfamiliar left-back role, due to injury problems for Jose Enrique.
