After a backlash from fans amid the ticketing debacle earlier this month against Manchester City, Arsenal have announced that their ticket prices will not be increased for next season.
The Guardian understands that prices will still be the same to adhere to fan concerns, and the economic recession.
The club said: “The price freeze applies to all match ticket prices including season tickets in both general admission and club level.
“Club level season ticket renewals will begin on 12 February. The move follows a full review by the Arsenal board which included an assessment of the current economic environment and feedback from fans’ groups.”
Manager Arsene Wenger has defended the high ticket prices, indicating they had to be like this to ensure his squad still can compete.
It was City’s recent trip to the Emirates that sparked the outrage. Away fans were charged at an admission rate of £62 (banner pictured).
The Premier League champions returned 912 unsold tickets for the game on 13 January, which they went on to win 2-0.
In recent seasons, Arsenal’s prices have been amongst the highest in the Premier League, despite not winning any silverware since moving from Highbury to the Emirates Stadium in 2006.
The issue also saw assistant referee John Brooks removed from linesman duty for two matches, after making a remark about the prices to City defender Joleon Lescott.
