Another injury blow for Tottenham midfielder Sandro

Midfield regular Sandro has received another injury blow, after undergoing surgery on Wednesday on a knee injury, the Independent reports.

The 23-year-old (pictured hobbling off) sustained the injury in the first half of Tottenham’s 0-0 draw at QPR last weekend.

It is expected that he will miss the remainder of the season, which will be a blow to Andre Villas-Boas, who only has Scott Parker back to full fitness after Achilles problems left him out of action until the Christmas programme.

The Brazil international had a spell on the sidelines at the beginning of last season for a similar problem he sustained whilst training at the Copa America.

He has bounced back well, and has featured 27 times for Spurs this season, becoming a fans’ favourite since moving to London from Internacional in July 2010.

He won a silver medal as part of the Brazil football squad at the 2012 London Olympics.

A statement on Tottenham’s website read: “Sandro has undergone knee surgery following the injury that forced his substitution against QPR at the weekend.

“The midfielder’s recovery schedule will be assessed over the next few days.”

His absence means Parker could make his first Premier League start of the season at home to Manchester United on Sunday.
