Book review: Thierry Henry: Lonely at the Top

Journalist and author Philippe Auclair, the man behind the interesting book Cantona: The Rebel Who Would Be King has come up with another insight into one of the greatest foreign stars to grace the Premier League.
Thierry Henry: Lonely at the Top is an accurate portrayal of the French striker’s journey in his career. His biography looks like it will be a top seller in the run up to Christmas.
Exploring the background
In this book, Auclair explores the background of the Arsenal legend, helped by years of interviews, personal observations and research.
Brilliant on the field, many neutrals were dazzled by some of his performances that were breathtaking.
He had a real charisma on the field and showed a lot of charm off it, although as with a lot of French stars before and after him, he did divide opinion with some of his antics.
Some of his legacy was tarnished, especially in the eyes of the Irish fans after his ‘hand of gaul’ incident in Paris that robbed the Republic of a place at the 2010 World Cup finals in South Africa.
Auclair examines Henry’s beginnings in a Parisian suburb to the early glory of France’s 1998 World Cup success and being noticed at AS Monaco.
Of course, his part in France’s ‘golden generation’ and Arsenal’s ‘untouchable’ side of 2004 will get significant attention but so does his nightmare in Serie A with Juventus and some of the frustration he experienced at Barcelona.
The most accurate detail of a great career
Now playing in the MLS with the New York Red Bulls, the ‘King of north London’s’ story is about to be revealed in its most compelling way so far.
Auclair’s portrait of the footballer is promised to be the most accurate, complete and thought-provoking of all-time.
The author, who has been RMC Radio’s UK football correspondent for over a decade and is a regular contributor to The Blizzard magazine, also reveals Henry’s role in the French side that totally imploded in South Africa in spectacular fashion.
He will also reveal Real Madrid’s desire to sign him as a teenager and the truth in his relationship with the other icon of French football at the time, Zinedine Zidane.
This book is set to be an interesting tale into the inner world of Thierry Henry.
