A dream start for Holloway

It was a dream start for Ian Holloway in a new job on Tuesday night, as for the second time this season; he oversaw a side that gave Ipswich a thumping.
Having steered Blackpool to a 6-0 victory over the Tractor Boys in August, he guided his new side Crystal Palace to a 5-0 success at Selhurst Park on Tuesday.
Not only that, it puts Palace top of the table by a point, now unbeaten in 12 games.
Ipswich did provide plenty of charity, conceding three penalties in the match, with two of these being scored in a Glenn Murray hat-trick.
Yannick Bolasie and Andre Moritz also found the target to give vindication to Holloway after his difficult decision to leave Bloomfield Road.
A proud Holloway (pictured) commented afterwards: “It was a fantastic performance from start to finish and the great thing about this lot is they grind on.
“We want to continue that and if I can keep them enjoying what they’ve been doing who knows what we can do?
Mick McCarthy got a rude awakening in London after a winning start last weekend at Birmingham.
Blackpool moving on
Blackpool were stunned by Holloway’s decision to depart but they are moving on and look set to announce a managerial appointment in the next 48 hours.
Portsmouth boss Michael Appleton is believed to be on the two-man shortlist.
On Tuesday, goals from Thomas Ince and Ludovic Sylvestre helped them to a morale boosting 2-0 victory at struggling Sheffield Wednesday.
That is the Tangerines first victory in over a month. Their last triumph was back on 2 October which was a 3-2 success away at Hull. Steve Thompson is in temporary charge at the moment and he wants to stay at the club if possible.
After victory at Hillsborough he said: “Whoever comes in, whatever role I am taking, I will just give it 100 per cent like I always do at the club.
“Whoever does come in, I will support them and I will back them because Blackpool is a special club.”
Another new appointment of late is Sean Dyche at Burnley.
He made it two wins in two after steering the Clarets to a 1-0 home victory over Leeds United.
Charlie Austin’s sensational form continued, as he scored his 20th goal of the season. This leapfrogged Burnley into the top half and above their struggling opponents, who haven’t won in five Championship games.
Thriller at the Valley
Former league leaders Cardiff City were booted off the top after losing a nine goal thriller at the Valley to Charlton Athletic.
The visitors took a 2-0 lead inside 25 minutes, courtesy of goals from Heidar Helguson and Joe Mason but once again defensive errors played a part in another collapse.
Johnnie Jackson scored twice as the Addicks produced a remarkable comeback to go 5-2 ahead.
Despite injury time efforts from Craig Noone and Aron Gunnarsson, a dismayed Malky Mackay could only watch on as his side lost 5-4 and dropped to third in the table.
Mackay said: “Individual errors cost us dearly. To give away five goals is unforgivable.
“We’ve looked at them and certainly four of the five where you’re thinking if someone does something completely different and something they’ve done all year then they don’t go in.”
Middlesbrough held on to their position in the top two of the table after playing out a tame 0-0 draw with Nottingham Forest at the City Ground.
Jordan Rhodes returned to Huddersfield and found the net for his new side Blackburn.
However a stoppage time strike from Lee Novak, his second of the match ensured the game ended in a 2-2 draw and means Henning Berg is still looking for his first victory in charge of Rovers.
Bolton goalkeeper Adam Bogdan was in top form as Leicester were frustrated to a 0-0 stalemate at the Reebok Stadium, ensuring Dougie Freedman remains unbeaten in his new job and Stephen Dobbie’s late winner gave Brighton a fortunate 1-0 triumph at home to improving Peterborough United.
