More woe for Hughes as Baggies maintain maximum home start

FT: West Brom 3-2 QPR
West Brom’s magnificent start to the season continued as the woe increases for Mark Hughes.
This 3-2 victory for the Baggies sees Steve Clarke’s side move into the Champions League positions in a fairly one-sided encounter.
The scoreline doesn’t tell the full outcome of the game with the away side devoid of much quality throughout.
Morrison puts rampant Baggies ahead
Inside four minutes, QPR were behind to a rampant Baggies side.
Shane Long strode past Clint Hill and delivered a brilliant cross for James Morrison, who met the ball first time and fired past Julio Cesar into the bottom corner.
It looked like a long afternoon for the visitors when they went 2-0 behind.
Anton Ferdinand made a hash of a poor cross and his clearance landed straight into the path of Zoltan Gera (pictured), who gleefully accepted the invitation to score.
With no creative influence in attack and a defence looking shaky, a hammering looked on the cards for Hughes but Adel Taarabt produced a moment of genius to bring them back into the game.
He made a deep run into the box, collected Ji-sung Park’s ball forward, chested and volleyed past Ben Foster ten minutes before half-time. This was their first attack of any note in the game.
Home side could have scored more
In the second half, the home side could have and should have scored more but eventually made the points safe in the 84th minute.
Youssouf Mulumbu swept in his first goal for almost a year to ensure the Baggies have made their best start in the top flight since 1919-20.
The away side did get back into the game late on, when Esteban Granero scored his first goal for the club in stoppage time.
However, the scoreline was much kinder to QPR than it should have been.
Clarke’s honeymoon period in charge at the Hawthorns continues but for Hughes, another week of difficult speculation about his future awaits.
