Kids shun Dad's choice of football team

The new sponsors of the League Cup, Capital One have revealed that only a small percentage of kids support the same football team that their father does.
The credit card company undertook the research after last week; Romeo Beckham recently surprised his dad David (pictured) by announcing that he’s an Arsenal fan.
48 per cent of football fans that took part in the study watched their first live game with their dad but just one-in-five go on to support the same team.
A little more surprising was the fact that football remains a vital family time element across the UK.
An astonishing 92 per cent stated that watching ‘the beautiful game’ is the time for family to get together. That is both either at the football ground or live on television.
This is despite the new additional pull in other forms of life like reality TV, online video gaming and social media addiction to sites such as Facebook and Twitter.
Chief Marketing Officer for Capital One Michael Woodburn said: “Which football team you follow can create debate and banter or instil a sense of camaraderie amongst friends and family.
“It is interesting to see children often don’t follow their families’ passions for the same teams and choose to dedicate themselves to another team, often creating a local derby in their home!”
Other research conducted by Capital One suggested that just 14 per cent of fans admitted to being the ‘glory hunters’ and supporting a team like Manchester City or Chelsea just because they are successful.
39 per cent of individuals surveyed chose their local side as the most popular reason for choosing a team and fathers don’t just attract more attention on younger males, with 42 per cent of female fans going to their first game with their dad, compared to a meagre 51 per cent of males.
Research conducted by ICM using an online methodology among 2,001 GB adults aged 18+ between August 8th and 9th 2012.
