Robins take Sky Blues hotseat

League One strugglers Coventry City have appointed Mark Robins as their new manager.
The 42-year-old is the permanent successor for Andy Thorn, who was sacked by the Midlands club at the end of August.
Previous managerial experience
Robins has previous managerial experience at Rotherham United and Barnsley but has been out of the dugout since stepping down from the Oakwell position in May 2011.
Assistant manager Richard Shaw, who had been in caretaker charge, will revert back to his original position while the services of former Sky Blue, Lee Carsley in a first-team coaching capacity have also been retained.
Robins told Coventry’s website: “This is a great opportunity. Coventry is a club with great tradition and although we find ourselves in League One, the squad that has been assembled is better than the results so far have shown.
“I am relishing the opportunity to turn things around and bring better times for the Sky Blues supporters. There is a lot to be done and I will get straight to work with the players and backroom staff.”
The club is playing in the third tier of English football for the first time since 1964 and have made a nightmare start to the season.
After seven games, they are still searching for their first league win of the season and Tuesday’s horrifying 4-1 away defeat at Shrewsbury Town leaves them joint bottom of the division.
Only Bury are behind the Sky Blues on goal difference.
A proven goalscorer
Last week, controversial owners SISU announced they had a shortlist of nine names, with former Hull and Preston boss Phil Brown being interviewed for the job.
However, it has emerged that the three-man final list was between Robins, Shaw and ex-MK Dons and Notts County manager Paul Ince.
Robins was a proven goalscorer in his football career, netting 106 league goals in 375 games between 1986 and 2005.
He began his career at Manchester United, with his most famous goal coming in an FA Cup third round tie at Nottingham Forest in January 1990, widely believed to have saved the job of one Alex Ferguson.
He also had spells as a player at Norwich City, Leicester City, Walsall and Burton Albion.
Coventry’s only victories so far this season have been in the Capital One Cup over Dagenham & Redbridge and Birmingham City.
They travel to Arsenal next week but before that, the aim is for a first league victory at home to Carlisle United on Saturday.
