Sunderland return with second bid for Fletcher

Unlike last season, Sunderland’s transfer activity has been mundane so far but Martin O’Neill is looking to change that.
He has returned with a second offer for Scottish striker Steven Fletcher.
The 25-year-old, who was relegated with Wolves, was the club’s top goalscorer last term with 12 strikes.
The Black Cats have seen a bid of £10m rejected for the player last week but have returned with a bigger offer, believed to be in the region of £12m.
Manager Stale Solbakken is keen to keep most of the squad that went down from the Premier League and is already resigned to be losing midfielder Michael Kightly to Stoke City.
Lack of options
The Wearsiders might use youngster Connor Wickham as makeweight in the deal and O’Neill is desperate to add to his attacking options.
Asamoah Gyan has completed his permanent move to the United Arab Emirates with Al-Ain and Nicklas Bendtner returned to Arsenal after an unsuccessful loan spell at the Stadium of Light.
This leaves Wickham and Ji-Dong Won as the side’s only recognised strikers.
Sunderland will be looking to improve on a disappointing 13th placed finish last campaign.
Fletcher (pictured) has been seen as a main target for the club but it remains to be seen whether £12m meets the valuation of Wolves.
