Birmingham and Bolton dumped out

Confidence boost for Villa and QPR
There was a morale boosting success for Aston Villa, who comfortably dismissed Tranmere Rovers 3-0 at Villa Park.

New Sunderland signing Adam Johnson made an impressive debut for his new club, setting up both goals for James McClean in Sunderland’s 2-0 success over Morecambe.
Despite two strikes from former West Brom player Reuben Reid, Steve Clarke’s Albion recorded a 4-2 away win in a thriller at Huish Park, with Chris Brunt scoring the pick of the goals.
There were also victories for Norwich City, Southampton, Reading, Swansea City and Middlesbrough.
