Craig Bellamy has completed his transfer back home to Cardiff City.
The 33-year-old, who was Team GB’s best player at the London Olympics, has moved back to Wales on a free transfer from Liverpool.
He has signed a two-year contract at the Cardiff City Stadium, returning to the place where he grew up and played on loan for the club in 2010-11.
It is understood that Bellamy (pictured with manager Malky Mackay), has taken a significant wage cut to finalise the move back to Wales.
His second stint on Merseyside saw him make 39 appearances last season, scoring nine times, including the crucial goal in the Carling Cup semi-final, to take Liverpool to Wembley in February.
Right reasons
In his loan spell at Cardiff, Bellamy netted 11 times in 36 appearances for the Bluebirds, who have changed their nickname to the Red Dragons for this season.
The striker has also played for Norwich City, Coventry City, Newcastle United, Celtic, Blackburn Rovers, West Ham United and Manchester City during his career.
On his unveiling yesterday, he said: “I was never interested in a move anywhere else. The hardest thing for me was leaving Liverpool. I am a Liverpool fan and Kenny (Dalglish) was great for me.
“The supporters at Liverpool have been immense and the way they have been with me about this has been amazing but my mind was made up. I am doing it for the right reasons.”
While Liverpool will miss one of their most hard-working players, the move gives Bellamy the chance to finish a colourful career on a high, in his native homeland.
