Berbatov set for new lease of life away from Old Trafford

Bulgarian striker Dimitar Berbatov has resigned himself reluctantly to the fact that he will be leaving Manchester United this summer.
The 31-year-old, who won the Premier League golden boot in 2010/11, has fallen down the pecking order at Old Trafford behind Wayne Rooney, Danny Welbeck and Javier Hernandez.
On his Facebook page, he wrote; “I love this club but I am not going to be useful to anyone if I am not playing. I want to play, I want to help but for unknown reasons, it’s not going to happen.”
First team football craved
Berbatov found the net seven times in just 12 league matches for the Red Devils last season, including a Boxing Day hat-trick at home to Wigan Athletic.
He cost the club £30.75m when he switched from Tottenham Hotspur on summer deadline day in 2008.
Earlier this year, Sir Alex Ferguson admitted that Berbatov might be leaving, due to his craving for first-team football.
He said in March: “At 31, he is looking for first-team football. It is difficult for me to guarantee that, so it could lead to him looking elsewhere.”
Berbatov has scored 48 Premier League goals in his four year stint at Old Trafford.
Cashing in
With one year left on his contract, United would be keen to cash in on the Bulgarian, who scored 48 goals for his country and played for them at Euro 2004.
His future at the club has been in severe doubt ever since he was left out of the Champions League squad to play Barcelona in the Wembley showpiece in 2011.
Despite two Premier League titles won, the desire to play on a weekly basis is the drive in Berbatov’s future career.
A host of European clubs, including Malaga, Paris St. Germain, Lazio and Galatasaray are believed to be interested in his services, although no official bid has been made yet.
Berbatov’s future might be abroad as his frustrating spell on the bench at Manchester United looks set to end very soon.
