Wrighty inspires the England squad on YouTube

PUBLISHED ON 1 JUNE, 2012
Former England goalscoring legend Ian Wright has shown his passion for his country in a new YouTube hit video.
Wright, who won 33 caps for the Three Lions during his playing career has adapted a video reading the classic poem ‘If’ by Rudyard Kipling.
The aim of the video is for the English fans to get behind the England squad during Euro 2012, which starts in Poland and Ukraine next week.
The two minute montage has already over 30,000 hits on YouTube and has received the support of celebrities on Twitter, including comedian James Corden and CNN journalist Piers Morgan.
Morgan mentioned on his social networking feed: “Great video by The Legend @IanWright0 for the England squad #WrightWrightWright."
The video is also promoting Absolute Radio’s live coverage of this summer’s main football attraction.
Absolute Radio brings live commentary to FM
In a new first for radio, the Absolute Radio network will bring live commentary of football games on FM, something not included in their current FA Premier League deal.
This means listeners in the London and South East area of the UK won’t have to tune in through the AM frequency or a DAB digital radio.
Absolute Radio will broadcast live commentary of 10 matches during Euro 2012, including all games featuring the Republic of Ireland and England in the group stages and the final in Kiev on Sunday, July 1.
The main UK rights holders for live football commentary are TalkSport and BBC Radio 5 Live. However neither broadcast on FM.
Live coverage of the tournament on Absolute will begin with Ireland’s match v Croatia on Sunday, June 10, kicking off at 7.45pm from Poznan.
Rock ‘n’ Roll Football
Supplementing the live coverage will be Ian Wright’s Rock ‘n’ Roll Football show. Together with comedian Ian Stone, Wrighty will be hosting a daily programme from 5pm.
The show will feature a mixture of live music, celebrity guests and a phone-in show where passionate fans can share their views and reactions to the latest matches and news from the training camps.
The passion that Wright showed on the field will come to the fore on this programme as he won’t be holding back on his thoughts, especially with the latest from the England squad.
Head of presentation at Absolute Radio Paul Sylvester said: “Wrighty’s been there, he’s done it and he knows what the players will be going through.
“He’ll have an amazing insight and will give his views in his brilliantly unique way.”
Part of the Absolute Radio team for Euro 2012 will include regulars such as experienced commentator Jim Proudfoot, another Arsenal hero in Perry Groves and former Soccer AM presenter Russ Williams.
What if?
Ian Wright’s Rock ‘n’ Roll Football will commence from Friday, June 8, all the way through to the Kiev final.
Absolute Radio will broadcast not just England and Ireland group games but also two quarter-finals and one of the blockbuster semi-finals.
All coverage of the tournament will still be accessible to those listening on digital radio, mobile, online, digital TV and 1215AM nationwide frequency.
Ian Wright said: “As an England fan I just want to see the boys go out and have a go. What if we go all the way, just what if…?”
That is exactly the question, what if?
